Los Mochis is a new pan-Pacific restaurant and bar in Notting Hill serving a fun fusion of Japanese and Mexican flavours. Located close to Notting Hill Gate station on Farmer Street, I loved the buzzy atmosphere and the colourful and vibrant art work by Jorge Tellaeche, both on the exteriors and interiors of the restaurant.
We started with some cocktails whilst we perused the menu. I opted for a Terra Incognita which was a blend of Tanqueray gin, lemongrass, sake, apple & chilli, lime & citrus foam, whilst Amit chose the Shingo Negroni with Nikka Days whisky, plum sake, Campari & sweet vermouth and smoke essence. Both were fabulous!
We then had an incredible feast, kicking off with Guacamole SoCal Shrimp to start. I would say if you love seafood you would really really love the menu here. Such fresh and high quality seafood all cooked with incredible flavours!
The menu is really extensive so if you are vegetarian there are plenty of options for you too. There was also a fair amount of dishes that were gluten free and vegan. I thought it was a very well thought out menu with so many interesting flavour combinations and so many new ingredients that I hadn’t come across before and so I was super excited to try it all!
One highlight for me were definitely The falafel which is their veggie take on Tacos Arabes, but with a Japanese spicy sauce. They were incredibly crisp, crunchy and moreish.
We also really enjoyed the sweet potato shell mini tacos with tuna and crab, which were the perfect starters. A flavour explosion in your mouth with every bite.
The Spicy Hiramisa with Yuzu Kosho, spring onion, jalapeno, truffle oil goma, sesame and mint cress was absolutely outstanding! I’d say this was definitely one of the show-stopping dishes of the night.
We also really enjoyed the Maki rolls, especially the Cucumber Avocado with sesame, coriander, lime and a jalapeno salsa verde.
At Los Mochis they have a vast selection of different Tacos and we tried:
- Miso Black Cod (Ume Saikyo Miso Black Cod, Avocado, Cabbage, Jalapeno, Sweet Potato Crisps)
- Trailer Park Chicken (which was epic – Fried Chicken, Guacamole, Jalapeno BBQ Sauce, Habanero Gochujang, Sesame, Parsnip Crisps)
- Prawn Kushiyaki (Grilled Tiger Prawns, Guacamole, Lettuce, Yuzu Aioli, Pico De Gallo, Coriander Cress)
- Bang Bang Kiani (Alaskan King Crab, Bang Bang Spicy Mayo, Lettuce, Yuzu Aioli, Masago, Coriander Cress)
For dessert we devoured a Chocolate Fondant with Dulce de Leche and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was dreamy and decadent with the perfect melt in the middle ooze!
Every single dish we tried was superb, both in terms of flavour and execution. I found the portion sizes really decent and generous. Perfect for sharing in a group, which I suggest you try and do so that you can try even more dishes as trust me when you are looking through the menu it all sounds so good!
Overall Los Mochis has got such a wonderful and fun ambience, great cocktails, with an upstairs bar area too, and the food is excellent – it would be a great venue for either a date night or a catch up with friends over lunch or dinner!
