Gymkhana has been a very special venue for us as we’ve celebrated many a birthday and special occasion here, the last milestone being our 5 year wedding anniversary. We were looking forward to celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary there in April this year but then of course, lockdown happened!
Needless to say, all good things come to those who wait and so we booked to celebrate once everything was open again and we could find a slot we could do on the weekend.
We decided to go for lunch on a Saturday and as well as the A La Carte and Tasting Menu options, they also offer a 2 course or 3 course Lunch menu. We opted for the 3 course menu which was at a very reasonable £32.50 per person, especially for the amount of food we got with it. Please note 2025 prices are different: Lunch menu is now £65 Per person.
To kick off our meal we nibbled on a Pappadum Selection that came with a condiment selection of Shrimp Sorpotel, a house pickle and nimbu achaari raita. There was a really good variety and great to have with our drinks.
For starters we shared the Aloo Chat with drizzles of Tamarind and garnished with Sev and the Kid Goat Methi Keema, Salli and freshly made Pao. Both were very tasty. I have had the Kid Goat Methi Keema before and it is a firm favourite.
For mains we devoured a Chicken Butter Masala and a Goan Prawn Curry, both which were so full of flavour and perfect with the fluffy naan in the bread basket. I especially loved the Chicken Butter Masala as the sauce was mild, rich and creamy.
The mains also comes with sides of Dal Lasooni, Aloo Jeera, a Bread Basket or Basmati Rice. This was a really generous amount and I thought it was such brilliant value for the price, considering that this is Michelin starred food!
I have to also mention mention that the side of Aloo Jeera was absolutely phenomenal! Just so moreish with a slight kick and probably the best tasting potato side dish I have had at an Indian restaurant!
For dessert I had the Saffron & Pistachio Kulfi Falooda which was also sublime. Great flavours and not too sweet.
The lovely team at Gymkhana also gave us a complimentary Mango Cheesecake for our Anniversary as well as some decadent petit fours.
It was absolutely worth the wait and such an incredible meal. I now have to find an excuse for a celebration to be back again to try more of the dishes soon!
If you haven’t been to Gymkhana, book it! I cannot fault the meal, the excellent service or the ambience. I can see why they have retained their two Michelin Stars and it is definitely one of my favourite Indian Restaurants for a special occasion.
