Afternoon Tea Review: Bafarat Cafe, London

Afternoon Tea fans listen up! Middle-Eastern coffee company Bafarat Cafe is now in Soho with an absolutely stunning venue, located in Soho London, easily accessible from either Piccadilly Circus or Oxford Circus, and they have an incredible Afternoon Tea offering!

Bafarat Cafe was founded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1952, and the London branch is their first international cafe, which opened in 2019.

Served on a display made from chocolate and sculpted by hand into the shape of a stunning chocolate tree, the Afternoon Tea is the brainchild of classically-trained French pastry Chef Thomas Alphonsine, who has previously worked with French chocolate company Callebaut.

Let’s start with the mini savouries, which were sublime! We shared a moreish Truffle Croque Monsieur and a lobster roll with spicy mayo. Also available is a salmon & avocado toast but as we aren’t salmon fans we opted for an extra Truffle Croque Monsieur each. This was perfect for me as I loved the Truffle Croque Monsieur the most! I’d recommend calling ahead to ask for Vegetarian offerings if you don’t eat meat/seafood.

As is tradition with Afternoon Team, there were also warm, fluffy scones served with jam and clotted cream. They were divine!

We then moved on to the best bit, the sweet patisseries, and Chef Thomas explained the sequence that we should eat them in so that the stronger flavours of some of the patisserie did not overpower the more subtle flavoured ones.

The first was the Apple and Cranberries Tart, followed by Mango and Passion Fruit Cheesecake, Pistachio Eclair, Colombian Coffee Tart (which was amazing), Belize Origins Chocolate Macaron and a Peanut and Salted Caramel Cookie. Each pastry was delicious and unique in their own way, but if I had to pick a favourite it would be the Pistachio Eclair followed by the Apple and Cranberries Tart.

The indulgence did not stop there though! If the patisserie selection wasn’t impressive enough, perched on a hand crafted Chocolate Tree were a Dark Chocolate Truffle, Chocolat Nougat, Yuzu X Chocolate and a Tender Caramel X Peanut. My favourite was most definitely the Yuzu X Chocolate followed by the Chocolat Nougat.
