Earlier this year I had my first taster of Winter sports and a snow-cation when I visited Vorarlberg, Austria. It really opened my eyes to the possibilities out there of a travel niche I had not considered before. With many looking to book travel towards the end of the year, if you are planning a getaway this winter then, what better way to spend your time than by taking part in some winter sports?
Winter sports are great for adventure lovers and thrill seekers and the downtime in between is great fun too! I highly recommend time at the Spa and getting involved in the après ski!
1. Identify what type of Sports you want to do
From skiing to snowboarding to sledging to ice skating and much more, there are so many options when it comes to popular winter sports that you could consider trying out. Once you know what you want to do, be sure to research booking the activities in advance as well as what clothing/equipment you will need and where to hire it from. You might even be able to save some money by booking certain things in advance!
2. Pick Your Destination
One of the first tips that you will need to take into consideration when it comes to planning a sports getaway is to make sure you have selected the right destination. With so many destinations to choose from including places like Austria, France, Canada, Japan and Germany, it can be hard to decide which one will be the best for you. To make things easier for you, you should consider choosing a destination that is popular for a specific sport that you are interested in.
3.Decide Who You are Travelling With
This sounds obvious but when planning on booking a sports getaway, it is important that you make sure you decide who you are travelling with and if they are right for the kind of trip and that they are interested in taking part in the sports activities you want to do. Before you decide to book anything, you will need to make sure that it is safe to do so according to the government and the travel restrictions put in place.
4. Get Your Insurance
One of the most important things you will need to do prior to travelling is to get insurance. Winter sports can be dangerous and as a result, you could cause an injury to yourself while taking part which is not ideal.
If you are planning on hitting the slopes, you’ll need to invest in some ski travel insurance. This way, if anything goes wrong, you might be covered for any medical bills abroad, which can end up being extremely pricey otherwise.
5. Pick somewhere to stay with Spa facilities
Trust me on this one. I highly recommend complementing your on-slope action with rest and rejuvenation and pick a spa hotel in the destination you are considering. After a tiring and strenuous day on the slopes there is nothing better than having a massage booked or taking a dip in a heated pool!
