5 Incredible Motivational and Self-Help Books to read by Black Authors

For the past two years it has been my resolution to read more books and I am proud to say that I have managed to read so many! I sometimes have a couple of books on the go that I will pick up and read during different points of the day, or some books that I will re-read.

I truly believe a book can inspire new and fresh ideas as well as different ways of thinking. I love starting my day with a freshly brewed coffee in my favourite mug and settling down to read a chapter, sometimes two, depending on how much time I have.

I find that this routine has  really helped to set my mindset for the day, especially when combined with morning pages and meditation.

These are some of the books I have read in the last 2 years that I have really found inspiring and helpful. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!

Happy reading xx

1.What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey.

This book is amazing especially during times of uncertainty, which a lot of us are going through now. Oprah is one of my role models and this is a book I have often gifted friends too. Simply amazing!

2. Becoming by Michelle Obama

This is Michelle Obama’s personal account and memoirs and is such an inspiring read. I think everyone should read this book. Though its quite a long book it’s worth it and I was so engrossed in it!  I’d recommend reading this first and then watching it on Netflix.

3. Slay In Your Lane: The Black Girl Bible by Yomi Adegoke Elizabeth Uviebinené

This book is fantastic and has a lot of gems of wisdom for anyone starting their career, especially if you are BIPOC/POC. I wish I had read this book when I first started my career but it has helped me even now when setting up my own business. Definitely a book to have on your bookshelf to reach for whenever you need a little push!

4. The One Week Budget: Learn to Create Your Money Management System in 7 Days or Less! by Tiffany Aliche

With a background in Banking I am a bit of a geek when it comes to finances. I found this book so helpful to learn how to effectively manage your money with such useful tips! If you are looking for tips on how to manage your money better get this book!

5. Abundance Now: Amplify Your Life & Achieve Prosperity Today by Lisa Nichols

I have read this book twice now and can’t recommend it enough. If you need something to inspire you and to help you shift your mindset in order to create an abundant life, this book is gold! I love the way Lisa writes and her energy and passion comes through on every single page.

Have you read any books by Black authors not on this list that you would recommend? Let me know in the comments. I am always looking for new books to read! xx
