As more and more people are practicing social distancing or self-isolating, sometimes a little gesture to cheer someone up can make a big difference, especially if they are celebrating special occasions alone or with only their immediate family around, or are finding it tough in general.
As this is becoming more of a longer term reality here are 5 ways to cheer someone up.
Schedule a catch up session or send them a message
Simply agree on a set time to catch up over telephone or video call on platforms such as Zoom or send them a message to ask how they are and let them know you miss them and are thinking of them!
A great idea which works well for me is a group chat where everyone checks up on each other regularly and shares memes and jokes just to lighten the mood!
Send them a gift
If they are going to be celebrating something or have just celebrated something or you want to send them a little token to simply let you know that you are thinking of them, why not send them a surprise gift?
I recently celebrated my 10 year Wedding Anniversary and whilst I am lucky in that I am self-isolating with my husband, a gift such as a ring being delivered from F Hinds would still be an exciting and nice way to make any occasion feel special.
Arrange for a care package
Whether it’s a vegetable or fruit box, flowers, a book to read for Kindle or even a subscription to something, why not arrange for a surprise care package to be sent to a loved one, either physically or virtually.
Why not go old school and write a letter. Getting snail mail will definitely brighten up anyone’s day. Make sure to include little added extras in your letters, whether it’s a photo, or even pressed flowers! I recently received a letter with Bay Leaves which was so lovely!
Do virtual activities together
Whether its quizzes, working out, cooking together or even speaking to each other on FaceTime whilst going for your daily walk together, try and do something fun virtually together. I love doing P.E. with Joe Wicks every morning!
These are great ways to stay connected with those who are important to us without violating the social distancing recommendations and will definitely put a smile on the faces of those who we care about in spirit.
