Dine By Candlelight Beneath St Pancras Renaissance’s Famous Grand Staircase

Looking for a unique dining experience?

I’m telling you what you want, what you really, really want…..

Well…the famous St Pancras Renaissance Hotel’s Grand Double Staircase, which was the setting for the Spice Girls music video and has had many famous feet ascend and descend down them, has something shiny and new to offer!

For the first time in history they’ve got a brand new unique experience that you can have right by the famous staircase and I was grateful to be invited to try it –  a candlelit dinner under the ‘star-case!’

Fun fact – the staircase was designed to be wide enough to let ladies in ballgowns pass each other without bumping into one another. More recently it has been an incredibly popular Instagram photo opportunity spot.
On arrival for your experience you start with a a champagne and canapés reception, which are very tasty. You are then seated at a round table romantically lit with long candles for a four-course gourmet menu created by the hotel’s Executive Chef Adam Ashe with a complimentary wine flight to pair with each course.
They cater for all dietary requirements and I had opted for a Vegetarian menu that evening, which started with a Chicory and red wine poached pear salad topped with walnuts, croutons and shaved vegan parmesan cheese, which was really scrumptious.
For the second course, I devoured a velvety Jerusalem Artichoke Soup with Pumpkin oil and roasted seeds.
Mains was a Roasted Cumin and Sumac Cauliflower with a Curry and Macadamia Nut Butter. This was utterly divine especially as I adore Macadamia nuts anyway!
For dessert, a Chocolate and Marshmallow Pudding with whipped coconut cream and a passion fruit curd was a sensational sweet ending to a fabulous meal.
The wines picked by the sommelier paired perfectly with the different courses and we even had a sweet dessert wine to end the meal with, which was really nice.
The experience, which costs £155 per person, includes a private champagne and canapé reception at 6.30 pm followed by a romantic candle-lit dinner at 7 pm. This is perfect for a different way to celebrate a special occasion or to spend an evening with friends or family doing something very exclusive – dining under a starry vaulted ceiling next to one of the most famous staircases in the world.
If you want the whole space to yourself, you can book a private experience for an additional £594.
