Fabulously festive things to do in London – 2019 edition

Looking for fun and festive things to do in London this holiday season? Here’s a roundup of the best things to see from Christmas lights, trees to festive food and drink.

Christmas Trees and festive installations

From traditional to modern, here are some of my favourite Christmas Trees across the capital this festive season.

Covent Garden

Covent Garden

Covent Garden has a Tiffany & Co. Winter Wonderland installation complete with an ice rink.

Claridges Hotel

Claridges Christmas Tree each year is the one I look forward to the most and this year Christian Louboutin has designed the Claridge’s Christmas tree. It is absolutely charming!

Sheraton Grand Park Lane has gone for a classic!

The Connaught Tree

This year’s Connaught Christmas Tree is gorgeous and designed by artist Sean Scully.

London Bridge

Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard has a stunning tree that brings a sustainable angle to a season of excess consumption with the tree being constructed using hundreds of recycled glass bottles from the hotel’s restaurants.⠀

Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard

Aqua Shard

Aqua Shard

Aqua Shard’s pretty tree is the brainchild of Scottish fashion designer Holly Fulton.

Hyde Park Corner

The Lanesborough
The stunning Ralph and russo inspired Christmas Tree installation, as imagined by creative genius, Tony Marklew at The Lanesborough, bringing to life the magic of couture.⠀

Festive Afternoon Teas

There is nothing as quintessentially British as an indulgent afternoon tea. There is no better way to get yourself feeling all merry and bright than by indulging in a holiday themed afternoon tea. Here are my top picks in London.

The Festive Tea at The Connaught

My favourite Festive Tea of the season with fabulous pastries, a fantastic selection of teas to choose from and the cutest Gingerbread men to dip into a dark chocolate fondue. Get booking as its only available until 1 January 2020 and this festive edition is not one to miss!

Other Food and Drink

Cosy up at Dalloway Terrace

The enchanting Dalloway Terrace has been transformed into a magical winter wonderland and is the perfect cosy hideaway for a catch up with friends and family. I had a wonderful brunch there but also love it for their with hot chocolates, cheese fondue and mulled wine.

The Churchill Bar, Hyatt Regency at The Churchill

The Churchill Bar is one of my favourite Mulled Wine spots and their Highlands Mulled Wine is delicious. They also have a cosy terrace where you can enjoy cocktails and share chocolate fondue.

The Loubi Express – Claridges Hotel

My favourite Christmas decor this year is at Claridge’s, whose hotel lobby has been transformed into a snowy forest clearing with 5m-high traditionally decorated trees and the pièce de résistance – the red and sparkly Loubi Express, named after its designer, Christian Louboutin. ⠀

Inside is an intimate dining carriage complete with a cheery Cocktail Conductor. The perfect spot to enjoy a glass (or two) of bubbles.

Underbelly at South Bank

There are lots of fab food and drink stalls all around Underbelly in South Bank to check out! My favourites include Meltsmiths and Roasty Wrap.

The ‘Chocolate Box Winter Terrace’  at Sheraton Grand Park Lane

Snuggle up at Sheraton Grand’s ‘Chocolate Box Winter Terrace’ and enjoy bespoke chocolate bars by pâtissier and celebrity chef, Eric Lanlard paired with dreamy, festive cocktails.

One of my favourites was The Christmas Delight, a milk chocolate bar with a fruity tanginess containing a hazelnut praline feuiletine filling paired with an eggnog cocktail and served in an elegant festive bauble with a candy-cane straw.

Also enjoyed Copper Chokoreto, an ‘Andoa’ organic milk chocolate bar with a zesty Japanese yuzu ganache centre and copper lustre, paired with a gin based cocktail with a strong citrus taste.

For something warming, The Sweet & Spicy, a 65% cacao dark chocolate bar with a refreshing spearmint fondant layer and completed with red marbling, paired with a warm rum based cocktail made with sweet honey and garnished with dry orange drawing out the minty twang in the chocolate.

The cocktail and chocolate bar pairings are available to enjoy on both of the hotel terraces, priced at £16. Sheraton Grand’s Chocolate Box Winter Terrace is open f until 4th January 2020.

Activities to do during the Festive season

Tutankhamun London Exhibition

Head to the Saatchi Gallery to see the final world tour of the treasures of the Golden Pharaoh, Tutankhamun.

Christmas Lights

From Carnaby Street to Regent Street, I love seeing the various Christmas lights across central!

My favourite this year is Carnaby’s Christmas lights which have been created in collaboration with Project 0, a charity who work tirelessly to conserve the oceans.

Ohhh those Christmas trees! I am struggling to pick a favourite, but I do love the Aqua Shard and the Lanesborough. Beautiful! My Mum and I usually do the Claridges festive afternoon tea each year, but decided to do something different this year. I have missed my festive afternoon tea!
