Ladies who lunch at Island Grill, Royal Lancaster Hotel

It had been some time since I had been to the Royal Lancaster Hotel, the last time being an event for The Thailand Tourism Board. The hotel has had a lovely refurbishment and I was meeting fellow blogger friends Angie, Emma and Sima for a review lunch at Island Grill, a contemporary restaurant and bar located within the hotel.

On a gorgeous day there are splendid views over Hyde Park and the cuisine at Island Grill is Modern European and their menu is excellent value for those looking for a fabulous lunch venue, especially with seasonal and sustainable touches. In fact they have been awarded two AA Rosettes and three stars from the Sustainable Restaurants Association.

We kicked off our lunch with some English Sparkling Wine whilst we peered over the fabulous menu. My camera unfortunately was malfunctioning on the day much to my annoyance and so I am sharing some gorgeous photos credited to my friend Emma of our lunch, starting with these beautifully presented chilli and garlic scallops (half a dozen of them), which was Emma’s choice of starter and one that she devoured and did not share and we can totally see why as they look amazing!

My choice was unusual for me but I enjoyed going off piste with a crisp pork puff with barbequed apple sauce, which was very much similar to pork scratchings with a twist.

Angie and Sima both decided on the Wild Mushroom on sourdough toast, drizzled with apple balsamic, garnished with wild garlic and a soft poached egg.

Now having spotted the desserts, I thought I’d go light on mains, and so I opted for crisp polenta with heritage tomato chutney and crisp sage, whilst Emma also picked a vegetarian dish of Quinoa and wild mushroom parcels served in a mushroom broth with braised fennel.

Now lets talk about dessert – what an amazing selection and we finally whittled it down to an incredible vegan chocolate and ginger sponge as well as my favourite dessert option, an amazing farmhouse cheese board which had the dreamiest array of cheeses ever! I would order both again in a heart beat!

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Island Grill and with its close proximity to the tube as well as being nestled in such a gorgeous hotel, its a venue I’d definitely recommend and I know we will certainly be back in due course for another ladies lunch!
