Review : Baozilnn – my favourite Dim Sum restaurant in London

It was about time I wrote about my favourite dim sum restaurant that you will have seen multiple times featured on my Insta stories if you follow me on Instagram. Tucked away on the corner of Frith Street and Romilly Street in a converted townhouse is Baozilnn, a restaurant I have visited countless times since August 2018 with friends old and new and my other half. I always find some sort of excuse to make a booking as it is not long before I am day dreaming about their food in between visits!

It is famed for its Northern Chinese street food and all-day Dim Sum with Sichuan and Hunan influences, which I especially love and which drew me there initially. I developed an obsession with Sichuan flavours after my trip to Hong Kong in 2017 and I am addicted to that spicy and numbing sensation.

Baozilnn which means “people’s canteen,” has two fabulous menus to choose from and the cosy dining rooms are set over 3 floors with the design features combining traditional elements with contemporary touches.

Having dined there multiple times I do have favourite dishes to highlight as must haves and it has definitely earned its spot as my favourite den for dim sum.

First up is the Sichuan Pepper Pork and Prawn ‘Shao Mai’ in Chilli Juice Pastry – just addictive!

In fact, all of their Dim Sum is just delectable that I would urge you to take lots of friends and try them all.

Their Dan Dan Noodles deserve a special mention – they are the best Dan Dan Noodles I have ever had and they do both vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions, which are both divine. The non-vegetarian version is served in a house-made combination of soy sauce, sesame sauce, peanut sauce, and minced pork and is just lip-smackingly amazing.

At present though the dish that keeps me coming back is the Legendary Pock Mark Minced Pork ‘Mapo’ Beancurd – the flavours are just incredible and it is perfectly paired with rice. I dream about this dish all the time. They also do a vegetarian version which is also very impressive.

Aside from the food, the people and service are also deserving of a mention – the service every single time has been exemplary and as a return guest, I always feel so welcome and the staff always have a smile on their face.

Their prices are also super reasonable considering their location and it is such great value for the fantastic quality of the food served that seriously rivals some of the more premium priced places.

They are now serving their wonderful food at Market Halls Victoria alongside their lovely Soho restaurant and so if you haven’t tried their delicious dishes yet get yourself to either one of their outlets and indulge in some great dim sum!

Their Soho location is perfectly placed for a lunch spot or evening dinner venue after either a day of shopping on nearby Oxford Street, or as a pre-theatre meal before watching a show in the West End.

    I love dim sum!! Really need to try this place, you’ve made my mouth water with the sound (and pics) of all those dishes. Yum!
