The Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea at The Langham, London

Valentines Day Afternoon Tea at The Langham, London

The Afternoon Tea selections at The Langham Hotel in London has always been truly remarkable and this year, in honour of Valentine’s Day, Pastry Chef Andrew Gravett and his team have created an especially stunning Afternoon Tea. I always traditionally opted for celebrating Valentine’s Day with dinner or a lunch, but actually Afternoon Tea is a fantastic way to celebrate as you get to indulge and experience a carefully put together work of art by the Pastry Chefs and it is really romantic, especially in the stunning surroundings of The Langham Hotel in London.

The Langham is one of my much loved hotels, so much so that I even stayed at The Langham when visiting Hong Kong last year, which you can read about here.

We arrived for a preview, and much to our delight were able to indulge in a ‘behind the scenes’ in the Pastry kitchen with Pastry Chef Andrew Gravett and his team, who showed us how they created the pink almond praline tart as well as the Langham chocolate rings, which are always made perfectly!

All accompanied with a refreshing glass of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut of course! It was fascinating to see the attention to detail, focus and passion the Pastry chefs had and it makes you appreciate the sweet selection that much more.

We then headed upstairs to the beautiful Palm Court, where we were seated at a wonderful table with some fabulous live music from a Pianist, and more glasses of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut arrived to keep us refreshed.

First we made our tea selections, of which the menu is extensive, and I opted for the lemon and ginger tea, before patiently anticipating the arrival of our afternoon tea. We were given a hot mug of palate cleansing tea to prepare us for what was to come.

The sandwich selection arrived first and we enjoyed the classic selection of sandwiches, however for the Valentine’s Afternoon Tea you will be able to experience sandwiches such as Roast beef and horseradish on rosemary bread, Duck egg brioche, artichoke and truffle, Smoked salmon and preserved lemon in a seeded cracker, Crab and avocado, coriander in a brioche roll and a classic Cucumber with cream cheese in white bread.

You will also have a Sausage roll with mustard ketchup, a Beetroot and goats cheese arancini with pickled walnut and a Salmon and lobster mousse with red pepper jelly. They all sound so delicious!

You know scones are good when you are dreaming of them days after you have experienced them, and the Langham home made plain and raisin scones are just incredibly moreish, and are served with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry preserve. If only I had some to enjoy right now!

Now the stars of the show – the sweet selection, which are served on a stunning display. You can enjoy “Where’s Cupid?” which is a Coffee and Orelys chocolate filled choux,
“Marry me,” which is a Pink almond praline tart, “Love is all around,” which is a Hibiscus and red berry mousse, and “You melt me,” which is one to share and is a Warm chocolate fondant served with vanilla ice cream.

They were all so decadent but my absolute favourites were the coffee and orelys chocolate filled choux and the warm chocolate fondant.

My day was made infinitely better with the arrival of none other than Chef Michel Roux Jr, who popped by to say hi and ask how the preview of the Afternoon Tea was going. Not one to miss a photo opportunity, I made sure he smiled for a selfie 😉

The spoiling didn’t stop there and as a take-away gift, we were given a ‘Say it with Roses’ packed in Langham’s signature pink box. It is a scrumptious Manjari chocolate mousse with passion fruit in a rose shape for cake lovers to take home and enjoy later. I loved this gesture and it was much appreciated at home by the other half too!

If you are looking for a special way to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, The Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea , priced at £59.00 per person, is my top recommendation and is definitely a swoon worthy way to mark the romantic occasion.

Seatings are from 12.00pm to 4.30pm and you can find out more and book on their website here.

Disclaimer: I was invited by Langham London and my Afternoon Tea was complimentary. All views and photos are my own.

Hi, I’m Binny – a writer, dreamer, serial wanderluster and travel addict. I am originally from Kenya but now live in London. I set up this blog to share my experiences eating out as well as travelling.

I love packing my bags and going off on adventures as one of the best things about travelling is the ability to just get lost in it. To set aside the maps and itineraries and just see where the road takes you, learning and evolving and living in the moment along the way.

It’s my goal to get swept off my feet as often as possible.
