My top 10 amazing epicurean dining experiences around the world

As a food and travel writer, I travel with the ultimate purpose to see and experience the world but also to try and have unique unforgettable epicurean dining experiences, and in no particular order, here are my top ten, from BBQs on Catamarans to cheeky Warthogs and having a shoal of lionfish for company.

Taking breakfast to new heights at Doha, Qatar

Thanks to the absolutely amazing team at Shangri-La Doha, I had possibly the best breakfast of my life on the helipad of the hotel seated on super comfortable Bedouin style cushions while enjoying a cup of coffee and some heavenly pastries.

The best part was the unbeatable view of the epic Doha skyline. Who needs walls with photos when the view is this incredible!

Afternoon Tea with Warthogs and Giraffes in Kenya

The most unique Afternoon Tea experience I have had is in my home city of Nairobi, at the amazing Giraffe Manor, where I enjoyed some delicious tea, sandwiches and dainties in the presence of some very cheeky Warthogs (whose eyes were definitely on my cake), and elegant Rothschild’s Giraffes.

I even got to kiss and feed the gorgeous giraffes after!

Dinner on a floating restaurant surrounded by Lionfish in Egypt

In Na’ama bay, Sharm El Sheikh, is an amazing floating restaurant where you can have a fantastic starlit dinner on a deck whilst surrounded by a shoal of lionfish in the water.

The restaurant, called ‘On Deck,’ serves amazing seafood and international gourmet dishes, and is one of the best venues for a romantic meal in Egypt.

The food and wine is really reasonably priced.

Being proposed to during a private dinner on the beach in Antigua

I have to be biased and say the best dinner I have ever had was on a beach in Antigua where my now husband Amit proposed to me. He organised such a perfect evening complete with candle flames, a playlist of romantic songs and a delicious menu in collaboration with the hotel we were staying at, The Jolly Beach Resort.

Lunch on a Saffron farm in Tuscany

Carmela and Ivan, the lovely couple pictured in the photograph above, own a saffron farm in Tuscany and we visited for an amazing lunch where each dish was created with saffron as one of the ingredients.

It was such an amazing experience, and if you are visiting Tuscany I can’t recommend this enough.

The cute dining room where we had lunch had amazing views of rolling Tuscan hills and their resident dog Runa was a real delight to play with.

It was such an unforgettable experience and their hospitality was fantastic.

Breakfast with a view of the endless ocean

Being born on an island, I have always been an ocean girl, and so one of the loveliest breakfasts with the sound of the sea as my companion, was during my Mediterranean cruise with P&O Cruises, where I enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast on the balcony of my cabin.

There as just miles and miles of ocean to stare at and the scent of the salty air. At that point of time it was just the most perfect moment.

If you are planning on booking a cruise in the near future I would recommend a room with a balcony as it is just so amazing to experience whilst the ship is sailing along.

A chocolate themed lunch at Hotel Chocolat in St Lucia

A lunch with a seriously amazing view of the pitons in St Lucia was the highlight of our trip to the Boucan Hotel, where the restaurant has a Cacao themed menu. It was an incredible experience and would recommend this restaurant to anyone thinking of visiting or planning a trip to St Lucia.

BBQ on a Catamaran in Mauritius

Whilst in Mauritius, we had a day trip excursion on board a catamaran to explore nearby islands and to go snorkelling in the sea, as well as swim with turtles.

It is on this catamaran that I have had the most unique BBQ experience of my life! It was so unreal seeing the sausages sizzling away against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean.

If you are planning a trip to Mauritius, you can book an excursion with and I can vouch for them being totally amazing!

Afternoon Tea with a magnificent view of London at Aqua Shard, The Shard London

Those that know me know how much I love The Shard in London for its immense views of the various London landmarks and ever growing skyline.

One of my favourite Afternoon Tea experiences in London to date has been the Champagne Afternoon Tea at Aqua Shard.

It is a must for its creativity, novelty, deliciousness and accompanying view.

Make your own Pina Coladas in Havana, Cuba

Whilst Mojitos may be my number one cocktail (and trust me the ones in Cuba were the best I have ever had), Pina Coladas are also a firm favourite and the best I tried were in Havana, Cuba at a casual bar we stumbled across whilst wandering the streets of Havana.

What I loved most was that we were handed the bottle of rum and so we could pour as much rum into our cocktail as we desired, pretty much making our own Pina Coladas.

There were plenty of other similar Pina Colada bars and shacks and even carts found along the various streets of Havana, and so if you do visit, definitely try them out!

  3. Wow, that’s some list Binny! The one that I’d like to go to most is the saffron farm – they seem such a friendly bunch, and there’s nothing like idling away a long Italian afternoon with honest food and wine..
