The Perfectionists’ Café at Heathrow Terminal 2 – The Queen’s Terminal

The Perfectionists’ Café at Heathrow Terminal 2 – The Queen’s Terminal

I love that excitement after you pass through airport security and have time before you need to be at your gate for your departure. I always try and eat before I fly as I am not the biggest fan of airplane food.

This time I was about to board an 11 hour flight to Bangkok and so was determined to eat really well prior to being on the plane. When the opportunity arose to try Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant at Terminal 2; The Perfectionists’ Café, I was excited. A sneak peek at the menu added to the excitement and I arrived at the airport slightly earlier so I could have a leisurely meal.

If the name sounds familiar it is because it is based on Heston’s In Search of Perfection TV series and books.

This was my first time dining solo at a restaurant and I was slightly nervous but as soon as I arrived at the restaurant, the staff were so lovely and I could see there were other solo diners dotted around the restaurant too. It has a nice relaxed vibe and the perfect spot to people watch from.

It is a very spacious restaurant which also makes it ideal for getting your laptop out and doing some work if you wish, too. They serve food all day long so even if your flight is in the morning you could have your breakfast there. If you fancy breakfast for dinner, you could do that too as they serve an all day breakfast on the menu too!

I started by ordering a cocktail from the extensive menu and opted for the Bucks Fizz. This was not your ordinary Bucks Fizz but Champagne mixed with orange, a marmalade reduction and peel tincture. Just so refreshing and delicious. The cocktails all sounded fabulous so if I get to fly from Terminal 2 again I will be sure to try some more!

The rest of the food menu is amazing as well with a variety of Burgers, Fish and Chips, Pizzas, Steaks, Deli dishes, snacks and British favourites to choose from. My kind of menu!

Ever since I visited Naples and attempted to make my own pizza, I have become really particular about Pizza and so when I read that they had a wood fired oven and that were serving authentic Neapolitan style pizzas, I was sold.

Having spotted the Truffled Culatello and Mushroom Pizza on the menu my mind was made up as I am also obsessed with Truffle ever since a trip to Tuscany where I went Truffle hunting! As you can tell Italy seriously influences me!

This perfectly made pizza was topped with mozzarella, truffled salami, mushrooms, rocket and truffle oil and divine! The crust was that delicious bubbly soft crust with that smokey flavour that I just adore.

I managed to finish the whole pizza as it was so delicious and made me all nostalgic about Naples, but even then I was determined to have dessert.

This is where it gets even better. They have a Nitro Ice Cream Parlour! Yes! At an airport! I think this may be the only Heathrow to have an ice cream parlour as it is definitely the first time I have come across it.

I have never had a decent ice cream before I have flown and so this was the best treat ever. There is an amazing choice of flavours as well as toppings to choose from. You can even have some of the pre-selected combinations such as an Eton Mess Sundae, The BFG, which is a Black Forest Gateau, or a Millionaire’s Sundae if you wish.

I chose a scoop each of the Hazelnut and Salted Caramel ice cream and the Dulce Pearls for the topping and it arrived in a wafer basket and was devoured super quickly as it was sublime.

I had a fantastic meal at The Perfectionists’ Café and the food was absolutely amazing. I really hope that I get to fly from Terminal 2 again as the rest of the menu looked really good too so would love to try more, as well as have the Nitro ice cream again!

If you do get an opportunity to travel from Terminal 2, I highly recommend a meal at The Perfectionists’ Café – there is something for everyone and it has a great balance of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes to choose from. The cocktails and ice cream are a must too! I would literally say get to the airport slightly earlier so you can enjoy a nice meal and aren’t rushing around!

I was well fed before my long haul flight and it was the best way to start my trip for sure! I also had a great first solo dining experience and I never felt alone as the staff came over and had a chat from time to time and there were lots of people just like me dining solo. I will definitely be brave enough to do it again.

The Perfectionists’ Café can be found at the upper level of departures, post security.

I love that feeling after you have checked in and before you fly! And I agree with you, eating at the airport is always best as I’m not a big fan of plane food either. The pizza looks fab!

I can vouch for the fish and chips too – they were fantastic! Great to have a place to actually enjoy a meal in an airport. Thanks for the review, Binny!

I’ll definitely pay this place a visit if I go through Terminal 2! Like you, I hate airline food as well, so being well stocked on the ground is uber important! Pizza and Ice cream look lush!

I always try to eat before a long flight – especially if it’s an evening one so that I sleep better 🙂 I’ll have to try here. Beautiful photos!

Always worth avoiding the plane food even in biz! I love the BA lounge chilli but this looks far plusher!

Ooh I didn’t know this existed! How cool, I love the Heston take on things and how everything has a slightly different or quirky twist. Your cocktail sounds so good, definitely need another excuse to head to the airport to try more.
