Outdoor spaces in London during summer are my absolute favourite, and a new one I’ve been to, is like a hidden oasis in Belgravia complete with fabulous food, and fantastic cocktails. It is also really tranquil, considering the busy and hectic neighbourhood it is located in. This is The Terrace at the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel which is literally an alfresco dining lover’s heaven.
Decorated and scented with orange trees as well as other botanical plants, it is so pretty and isolated from nearby Knightsbridge, and the perfect place to escape either for a cocktail or some superb food, with lots of comfortable seating to choose from, and an open plan kitchen which will entice you with the aromas of the fresh food being cooked.
I started the evening with a cocktail, and chose the Pedro Collins, which was Bacardi Gold Rum, fresh lemon juice, sugar syrup, Fever Tree soda water and garnished with fresh lemon. The perfect summer cocktail!
While we chatted away we tucked into a few platters of starters such as Moutabel, pomegranate and sumac ‘Kilner’ and the Hummus and paprika ‘Kilner,’ both of which are served with grilled pitta.
We then moved on to Antipasti such as a board topped with Bocconcini mozzarella, grilled peppers and courgettes, feta with sun blushed tomatoes and grissini and a Cured artisan meat platter with all the amazing meats such as smoked chorizo, prosciutto ham, Milano salami, as well as Provencale Olives and grilled focaccia.
They were all so delicious and perfect to order if you wanted to have drinks too as they are so perfect for sharing.
For my mains, I was in a seafood mood as sitting at The Terrace you feel like you’ve been transported abroad to a beachside holiday, and so I decided to go for the Grilled King prawn skewers on a bed of seared asparagus with lemon, parsley and garlic sauce. It was really fresh, zesty and decadent, and I particularly loved the lightness of the dish. It was perfect for summer. I had it with a (massive and indulgent) side of Classic Coleslaw which was so dreamy.
Aftab chose the Lemon and thyme marinated baby chicken, served with spicy harissa sauce and grilled vegetable garnish, which was really giant Asparagus! I had never seen such massive Asparagus in my life and so it was clear that the vegetable sourced for Jumeirah was of the best quality! He devoured his chicken and it was served exactly as he hoped it would be!
Sarah chose the Tandoori chicken pitta with mint yogurt, tomato, cucumber and coriander salad, which looked really good so I might order that next time I am there!
There is always space for dessert and nothing sounded better for a hot day than the Lemon meringue pie sundae, with sweet lemon curd, blueberries, vanilla ice cream, crumble and meringue. It was so refreshing and perfect and a massive portion too! I adored the miniature macarons on it and the meringue pieces were to die for.
A popular choice on the table was the New season strawberries with Jersey clotted cream. The strawberries looked so juicy! Everyone decided to have a side of ice cream with it and Aftab had chosen the Mint Chocolate ice cream and it was served in an Oyster shaped wafer and he absolutely loved it.
The Terrace at Jumierah Lowndes is literally a fabulous escape from hoards of tourists and is so peaceful – the perfect venue to catch up with friends at or to enjoy a nice alfresco meal whilst we have amazing summer weather. It is really lovely, decked out in gorgeous furniture, has a fantastic atmosphere and gorgeous food. Definitely one to check out this summer!
