A staycation with Silver Linings at the London Marriott County Hall

Lately life has been super hectic and so when the opportunity arose to have a staycation in London itself, I jumped at the chance to have a little escape in my own city and play tourist. Sometimes you need a little break to switch off, rejuvenate and recharge and this couldn’t have come at a better time! Plus I had never experienced staying in the city of London so this was a first.

I was being hosted by the fabulous and luxurious Marriott County Hall, a hotel which has just undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment, and whose launch party I had attended late last year. Located along the banks of the River Thames it truly has an enviable location. The building housing the hotel used to be the London County Council and has a colourful past.

As I arrived early on a Monday evening (what better way to spend a Monday) to check in, I was impressed by the seamless check in process and excited to see my room, which I had been told had a view of Big Ben.

My room was on the fourth floor and was an Executive Big Ben Room and it was fantastic. Not only could I see Big Ben from my window, which was amazing, I could even see the London Eye as an added bonus! I literally was so ecstatic and couldn’t stop marvelling at the view and taking lots of photos!

Feeling so spoilt already, I noticed that the hotel had left me a gift bag full of treats on the bed too! So thoughtful and my favourite chocolates too, as well as sun protection cream, a notebook and a voucher to come back and experience the Afternoon Tea, which I most definitely will. Thank you Marriott!

It didn’t stop there and there was also a (delicious) cupcake with clouds on it (so cute) and Gin and Tonic on the side table too, as well as a very thoughtful bucket of ice as it was 30 degrees that day.

The room itself was so bright, spacious and dreamy I was so glad to have it all to myself. It was a particularly hot summers day and I was grateful for the luxury of having individual climate control in the room, which I used to cool down the room.

The decor in the room was elegant and modern, with lovely vibrant colours and gorgeous interiors. It had a lovely sofa in one corner and an arm chair in the other, as well as a 32-inch flat-screen television.

The Nespresso machine was a welcome amenity which I used for my morning coffee with glee as my day has to start with a coffee, no matter what. Alongside lovely mugs, they had also provided takeaway cups in case you wanted to make yourself a coffee or tea to go.

The bathroom was fabulous with a powerful shower, and a very spacious sink where I spread out all my toiletries. The decor was cool with a map detailing the walls. I am a bit of a map geek so I loved this touch.

After freshening up, I met up with fellow blogger friend Aftab, who was also staying at the hotel, and we headed up to the Westminster Suite on the 5th Floor where there was a Champagne and Canape reception. This is a stunning suite and we had been lucky to see it last year when we attended the launch.

We were there for the launch of the London Marriott County Hall’s Silver Lining Package, which for a place like London, where the weather changes constantly, is actually such a genius service. This package, which is just so aptly named, is available to guests who choose to stay in one of the hotel’s 12 premier suites.

So what is the Silver Lining Package, you may be wondering? Well London Marriott County Hall have enlisted the guidance of meteorologist and Sky News presenter Kirsty McCabe to help guests who chose this package to be prepared for any type of weather situation in London, whether it is rain, snow or sunshine as they will have access to the world’s first weather reactive room service.

It’s certainly the little things which make a big difference when it comes to service, and the weather reactive room service is actually incredible! If, for example, it is a cloudy overcast day in London, the hotel will brighten up your day by bringing over a light therapy lamp. If it happens to be a (rare) sunny day, you will have a selection of luxury skincare products to use waiting for you on your bedside table. And if you happen to find your hair has been subject to wind related predicaments there will even be a hair stylist on call to make you look and feel fabulous again! How utterly fabulous is that?

With forecasts from Kristy McCabe at their fingertips, the hotel concierge staff will truly be able to suggest and tailor appropriate outdoor activities for guests to make the most of the varying weather situations and thus experiencing the best of London no matter what the weather!

Whilst we indulged in cocktails and canapés, I had a little pampering session with complimentary drop-in style beauty treatments they had available on the evening. I had a Sunshine Ready express pedicure, as well as a Pre-storm Relaxer, which was a  head, neck and shoulder massage. I felt so zen after!

After the reception, we ordered in room service to my room as we wanted to dine together and enjoyed the night scenes of London whilst tucking into our dinner and sipping on Shiraz.

For starters we had BBQ Chicken Wings, and Woodall’s English Charcuterie, and for mains we had Chef Sanjay’s Butter Chicken Curry and O’Shea’s 35 day dry aged sirloin steak.

I even went for dessert because I saw that they had Sticky Toffee Pudding with Dorset Clotted Cream on the menu selection and I can confirm that it was divine. The room service menu was really fantastic with a lovely choice of dishes to cater for everyone.

After dinner we wandered outside for a stroll along Southbank, watched a busker singing, had some frozen yoghurt to cool down in the heat and then headed back to the hotel, happy, chilled and relaxed. Perfect way to spend a Monday evening!

The next day we had to check out, but we did have a Continental Breakfast in the M-Club Lounge before saying goodbye to the wonderful hotel with glum faces. Goodbyes are hard!

The M-Club Lounge is the executive lounge and you can pop in for drinks, coffees and food every day between 6am to 12am. It has a lovely ambience, plenty of wall sockets so you can work from there if you wish, and a fantastic selection of drinks in the fridges to help yourself to.

We had been in there earlier in the evening for some Pimms, which was delicious and so refreshing, as the server in charge had told us all about the cocktails they made.

An alternative venue for a more traditional breakfast is Gillrays restaurant, which has spectacular views of the river and the London Eye.

The hotel also has a striking bar area, which we had visited at the launch party last year, but didn’t manage to have a drink at on this occasion. I do remember from last time though that the cocktails were really good so we will definitely be back soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed my staycation at the London Marriott County Hall and experiencing the Silver Lining Service, and am so grateful for it. Thank you for having me!

If you are looking for somewhere special in London to stay, with impeccable service and all the extra touches that the Silver Lining package provides, I can’t recommend the Marriott County Hall enough.

Plus you get a room with a seriously remarkable view plus you will have the best time in London thanks to the accurate weather predictions and associated activities and services! To find out more and to book visit their website here.

I was a guest of the London Marriott County Hall but all views and photos are my own.
