Darjeeling Express at Druid Street Market

One of the most inspiring ladies I have had the pleasure to meet is Asma Khan, whose heart is the kindest and her cooking just absolutely fabulous.

Having eaten at her supper clubs and missing her dishes, we headed to Druid Street Market, where she has a pop up stall selling her popular dishes as well as some Ramadan specials, until the 2 July 2016.

As we had spent the morning in Borough Market, we were a walking distance away and it was a glorious morning so we arrived bright and early and Amit took over, based on his neat handwriting, to write on the large board.

The choice of dishes was incredible and passers by were also drawn in by the aromas wafting through the air.

The best part about this pop up is that all profits go to help Syrian Refugees as part of Action Against Hunger. How amazing is that?

She has a wonderful team who chose to volunteer their services for this pop up which is absolutely amazing. All such inspiring, kind women with the biggest infectious smiles. Asha is the cutest! So bubbly and enthusiastic.

I had the Ramadan Phulkis to start and these were so good I had to have 2 helpings. Hot (in terms of temperature) and freshly made, these were just the perfect morsels of delight for the morning.

There was no oiliness. Just pure, delicious flavours of the lentils and cooked with love. The chutneys that accompanied it were so tangy, decadent and addictive.

We also had papri chaat which was so refreshing, has the right amount of crunch and just divine. One of the best papri chaats I have had in a long time.

Pictured below is Asha assembling the Papri Chaat.

Another lovely lady helping out. The spread of food was just amazing!

Asma also let us try the Chicken and rice and it was full flavoured and so tasty!

If you get a chance, please do head to Druid Street Market this Saturday 2 July 2016 between 10am and 4pm and trust me this will be the most delicious food you will eat that day! You will also be giving back as all profits from the food will go to such a fantastic cause, Action Against Hunger.

If you wish to take food away you can but it is best eaten hot and fresh!

The Darjeeling Express pop-up will be open 10am-4pm every Saturday until 2 July, 126 Druid Street, Bermondsey, SE1 2HH, www.druid.st

Hi, I'm Binny - a writer, dreamer and serial wanderluster with a love for Wildlife Conservation. I am originally from Kenya but I now live in London. 'Karibu' to Binny's Food and Travel! I regularly share my experiences eating out, cooking and travelling, both in the UK and globally, as well as educate on the plight of Wildlife. I am an ambassador for World Animal Protection and regularly support the work of The Born Free Foundation, Four Paws and Dreams Come True Charity. I love packing my bags and going off on adventures as one of the best things about travelling is the ability to just get lost in it. To set aside the maps and itineraries and just see where the road takes you, learning and evolving and living in the moment along the way. It's my goal to get swept off my feet as often as possible!
